Recently eggs have been getting harder to find, and rather than the brand of XL white eggs we'd been getting, we started getting ones that are mixed colors [mostly brown and tan, it varies from batch to batch] and found they have harder, thicker shells, but they're much easier to break without the whole thing spider-web cracking! A lot of them will break pretty cleanly around the egg and break in 2 halves. Much easier for single-handed cracking
